Prescribed Fire as a Land Manangement Tool

Fire is a natural part of prairie, forest and wetland ecology. Prior to settlement, large fires regularly swept through the landscape. Prescribed fire is the application of fire under controlled conditions in a safe and professional manner designed to generate a prescribed vegetation community effect (typically reduction in woody encroachment into prairies, meadows and savannahs).

Join Julie Pelc, manager of stewardship programs for the Nature Conservancy of Canada’s Manitoba Region, to learn about how the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) implements prescribed fire to manage Manitoba’s fire-dependent ecosystems.
